Distance College Degree

Getting A Distance Learning Degree

Going to college has moved into the 21st century by getting even more convenient for those who don't have the time or the money to go to an on-campus school. Numerous universities and colleges all over the country have started online degree programs which you can complete from your own home. No more paying costly board and room, no more long drives several nights a week, and no more being restricted to only those few classes that are taught in the evening. Distance learning has caught on all over the country, and if you want to get in on the better careers and higher paychecks these other people are working towards, there's no time like the present to begin.

Distance learning started out with a small number of colleges offering a few classes online. There were no degree programs, and students often had to complete coursework both online and at the college campus. Since its onset, however, it has become much easier to find a college where you can earn a distance learning degree, and the number of majors being offered has increased significantly. Whether you're interested in Education, Criminal Justice, Nursing, Law, Religion, Psychology, Business, or a host of other fields, you will be able to find accredited universities where you will be able to study for your degree. You can even earn your master's degree or a PhD. by taking online degree programs.

Having taken several graduate courses via the Internet, I am well qualified to tell you that distance learning is a great experience. I was working full time as a Kindergarten teacher at the time, yet I was still able to not only finish all of the assignments ahead of schedule, but I also enjoyed every minute. The text materials were fascinating, the videos took me right into classrooms where I could learn best practices, and I was able to converse with my classmates and instructor via a message board whenever I needed too. I learned so much, gained credits towards my advanced degree, and only wished that I could afford to take more classes.

Just because a degree program is given online doesn't mean that  your education is going to come cheap. I paid the same amount for the credits I took as students working on-campus would pay. Still, without dorm fees and meals and the expense of driving back and forth to classes, online courses are a bargain. You use the same college-level textbooks that on-campus students use. It does take some self-motivation to get yourself to give up your free time and activities in order to do the requisite studying, but if you're like I was, you're going to thoroughly enjoy taking the classes this way, so it won't seem like a sacrifice.

Taking distance learning isn't at all like the experience you get attending college full-time, but it still makes it possible for those who may have thought it was too late to create a future for themselves to have the second chance they need. I knew a woman with a home, a full-time job, and two children who earned her undergraduate degree a class at a time by going to a local college several nights a week for years. She was one of those people with a ton of energy and the determination to match, and that's what it takes to make the commitment she made. Lucky for you, you can take the classes you need right in your own home to earn your degree online.
